48HRS Competition

September 16, 2009Architecture, WORKNo Comments

The result of my 2-day charette. A wood screen is used to further articulate the plaza boundary, while still allowing views to the iconic Marcel Breuer library. The most visible corner of the site is to be used as an outdoor theater, bench seating is dispersed throughout, a playground will take the place of the existing landscaped area, and a refreshments counter added adjacent to the existing sculpture.

Single Ply Workspace

September 6, 2009Furniture, WORKNo Comments
This workspace developed from an interest in exploring the strength of a single sheet of plywood. Of equal interest was the achievement of structural stability using mostly simple/pinned connections, as well as minimal mounting to the existing walls. The sheets of birch plywood and osb are modestly connected using bronze door hinges. The “modelling” and “office” workspaces are balanced by tiny steel angles at the existing opening. The “modelling” workspace has no connections to the existing fabric, while the “office”
workspace is pinned at the wall by a single angle.
